The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities
The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities in the UNC School of Medicine was recently established (July, 2007) to provide the citizens of North Carolina with world class services, research and training for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  This new Institute combines four nationally-recognized, stand-alone facilities that address individual aspects of developmental disabilities—the Center for Development and Learning (CDL), the Treatment and Education for Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) Program in autism, the UNC Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Center (NDRC) and the North Carolina Family Support Network. The integration of these four programs into a single, new Institute establishes the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities as one of the premier integrated programs for developmental disabilities in the country.  The over-arching aim of this new Institute is to provide cutting-edge services, research and clinical and research training to benefit individuals with developmental disabilities and their families and to lead discussions and planning for services, education  and research on developmental disabilities in the state of NC.
